In 2001 Gerda Guttenberg and I were approached by the grandnephew of the composer Wilhelm Hill who was living in a retirement home near Salzburg. He wanted to bring the music of Wilhelm Hill back to life and asked us to put on a concert around the 100th anniversary of Hill's death in 2002. In April 2002 we played that concert at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and subsequently thought about recording that programme for CD. Rainer Kahleys, the owner of Musicaphon, agreed to release it upon funding of the Master CD by Mr Hill, and I think that there is a lot of worse repertoire around than Hill's piano quartet. I am always tempted to think that this is what Schumann would have written on a bad day ...
